Monday Market Briefing - 10th June 2024

A promising start to the US wheat harvest has brought some downside pressure into the market –  Chicago led the sell off and dragged everyone else along for the ride- stopping the two month rally in its tracks. This despite the Russian/European crops getting further downgrades, Russia reported that it may have to limit supplies to some destinations in the coming season, and with Europe’s  weather still looking pretty gloomy for the rest of June it’s too early to call the weather market over yet. Room for an up-tick this week perhaps.

Most old crop markets are looking pretty done now, but we do still have a bit of room on our last malting barley cargo of the season, laureate is the variety, don’t miss that one if you have any left.

At home, southern crops have flourished in May and look a picture of health now, definitely worth a look at our trial events which are now in full swing. This week we are hosting events at Vuggles Farm, Lewes on Tuesday 11th  as well as Bird Lymes Farm, Salisbury on Thursday 13th.  Both of these crop tours are accompanied by grain marketing breakfast meetings in the morning which is proving a very popular combination. Our regular customers know the score by now, but if you haven’t attended one of our events before and are curious, feel free to give us a call on 01243 755650 and we can fill you in on what to expect, everyone is welcome and don’t forget to bring along your moisture meter – it’s  a great opportunity to get that certified for the coming harvest. We hope to see you there.

Have a good week.
