Trials results
Over the past couple of years we’ve been running our winter wheat trial plots with Firefly. Elicit and Basset are also key varieties for comparison in group 3.
As you can see in our trials video below from 2020, Firefly looked like a solid choice for growers. Previously, there have been yellow rust issues that didn’t reflect its score of 9 from the AHDB. This was clarified by the need for Firefly to reach maturity before its high Yellow Rust strength.
Firefly has also shown to considerably increase its yield when a comprehensive crop protection program is applied throughout the growing season. For expert agronomy advice for KWS Firefly, contact our agronomy team on 01243 755610.
The Grain Market view
“Firefly possesses the highest milling characteristics of any soft wheat, attracting milling premiums comparable with Group 1’s”
KWS Firefly is suited to all regions, consistently performing across light and heavy soils, as well as first and second cereal crops. The flour produced from Firefly is the most suited to bread-making products on the continent, making it the preferred export soft wheat. Firefly is also able to be applied against Bartholomews high protein/ high premium export contract.
